A participatory workshop was organized on theme of Varanasi Smart City Development at Malaviya Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (MCIIE) at IIT (BHU) Varanasi on October 30, 2015.
The dignitaries present were the Mayor of Nagar Nigam, Sh. Ram Gopal Mohale; City Commissioner Sh. Hari Pratap Shahi, Prof. S.N. Upadhyay former director of IIT(BHU), Dean IIT(BHU) Prof. A. K. Tripathi, Prof. K.K. Srivastava, Prof. S.P. Singh and other professors from IIT(BHU).
Prof. P. K. Mishra, convener for the programme welcomed the dignitaries and the participants of this workshop. More than 100 faculty members and students from IIT(BHU) and BHU participated in this workshop. To set the ball rolling Prof. Mishra, invited Mr. Sushil Gupta, consultant for the Smart City Project at Varanasi to explain the salient features of the Varanasi Smart City Project.
Speaking on the occasion City Commissioner, Sh. Hari Pratap Shahi emphasized on the mandatory component of public participation to lay down the final Smart City plan in this project. Citing the limitations of Nagar Nigam he invited experts from the university to join hands for better implementation and results.
Prof. Mishra who also moderated the entire programme invited every one present to give two suggestions each. These suggestions were noted down to be analysed and priortised.
Mayor, Mr. Mohale, appreciated this approach and thanked all for their suggestions.
